Hi, I’m Karalyn!
My path to becoming a therapist, like many things in life, was a journey. It was a journey that resonated so deeply with who I am, helping people see their potential, not their limitations. In my early education I earned a bachelor’s degree in Applied Linguistics with a focus in TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) and a minor in Psychology. My experience in working cross culturally as a teacher fuelled my passion to create a safe and comfortable environment working with individuals who were finding the day to day to be a struggle. I believe on a core level: that every person has innate value and worth and many resources, through which they can choose to experience change and embrace vibrancy in their life. I approach working with clients through this systemic lens, attempting to understand their roles in family, culture, and community.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and have a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I work from a trauma-informed perspective that acknowledges the presence of trauma in the individual or family’s context and emphasizes the importance of safety, predictability and choice in the therapy process. My therapeutic approach is person centred where I believe that you are the expert on your own experiences. I provide you with support using a combination of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I have training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches but deeply believe that therapy should be collaborative.
In our work together, you can expect a warm and empathetic presence that is non-judgemental and compassionate. As human beings, I believe that we are all wired for connection and long to be seen, heard, and known. My hope is that through your work with me, you can experience internal transformative change that enables you to love yourself and embrace your story.
I am a Canadian wife, mother, mountain dweller, and counsellor. I was born and raised in a suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia but for the last several years have been living in a small rural community. I consider it a great privilege to be a counsellor and to have the opportunity to walk alongside clients on their journeys. I am thankful for the gift of technology and how it has allowed for me to work with individuals across several different communities to provide counselling opportunities even in challenging times.
